Coomassie Brilliant Blue Staining

(Protocol summary only for purposes of this preview site)

Gel electrophoresis can be used to separate complex mixtures of proteins like cell lysates. Once separated in the gel, the target protein for immunization can be visualized using Coomassie Brilliant Blue stain, then the protein band can be excised and used for immunization. It is important to use the R-250 form of the dye, which does not bind permanently.
