Complement-Dependent Cytotoxicity Assay

Antibodies that contain the Fc portion of the human IgG1 can activate complement-mediated killing in one of two ways. The first is direct complement killing of tumor cells by the membrane attack complex (MAC), a process usually called complement-dependent cytotoxicity (CDC). The second is antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC) (Protocol 4) (Gelderman et al. 2004).
