Immunizing Mice, Rats, and Hamsters in the Footpad or Hock

(Protocol summary only for purposes of this preview site)

Immunizations through the footpad or hock are two forms of subcutaneous (s.c.) injection. Using the footpad route usually requires scientific justification and IACUC approval because it can cause severe inflammation and pain. Hock immunizations are a good substitute that is less traumatic to the animal (Kamala 2007).
