Adoptive Transfer Immunization of Mice

(Protocol summary only for purposes of this preview site)

This procedure is designed to enrich and expand antibody-forming cells for use in generating monoclonal antibodies. Spleen cells that have reverted to memory cells are transferred to syngeneic, -irradiated recipient animals. Irradiation is used here to wipe out the immune system in the recipient animal, allowing the implanted immune cells to take over. There can be an 80-fold enrichment of antibody-producing cells over that obtained in the original immunized animal.
