Induction of Ascites in BALB/c Mice Using Myeloma Cells

(Protocol summary only for purposes of this preview site)

A rapid way to produce an antibody is to prime the animal with pristane, then inject myeloma cells containing the antigen intraperitoneally into an animal, followed by injection of Freund's adjuvant (Lacy and Voss 1986). After a few days, ascites will develop. The ascites will have a polyclonal antibody titer similar to that in the blood. This antibody can be collected and used in <1 mo.
